Why is there no cure for a cold? I don’t know the answer. I don’t know the answer at all. But I DO know my personal plan to attempt curing one and I’m going to share here. I would also really like if you share your plans with me as well. In case they work better than mine.
But let’s face it, I think all of our plans are a shot in the dark because there is no cure for a cold. For example, last week I felt a cold coming on, by Monday I felt better! But today I woke up with a very bad cough and could not show my face in public. And I had to sneak into work to get my computer to work from home and then spray anything I had touched with disinfectant and then ran out of there faster than the Hamburlgar in a cloud of Lysol because I didn’t want to spread germs.
CHUG WATER! Chug water like you have never chugged water before. Chug water like it’s day 3 of Lollapalooza and you’re more tired than you’ve ever been in your life and you’re hungover and you just want to lay on the ground on a tapestry and stare mindlessly at the Chicago sky over Lake Michigan and you actually consider drinking all of Lake Michigan with a giant straw. CHUG WATER LIKE THAT. And after you chug water, chug some more. You should be peeing at least twice an hour. That goes for any day actually but when you have a cold or feel one coming you should double that H2O intake. Thx.
take a nap.
You better ALWAYS be getting enough sleep but as a potential cure for a cold you should be getting EXCESSIVE sleep. Like an extra hour on both ends. You’re not going to get better if you go out to dinner or wake up early to go to the gym and drag yourself there in the cold. I’m sorry, you’re going to have to give something up. Maybe a lot of things. I’m saying sorry to myself because I really, REALLY hate to miss things, especially the gym or anything fun or food related, It is uncool and unfair but this is a cure for a cold. SLEEP.
According to the internet and science, avoiding dairy can help with curing a cold because when you eat dairy it can lead to more stuff in your nose and your chest and your head. “Stuff” as in congestion. That’s as far as I’ll go with that.
I am 100% unable to avoid dairy, even though Instagram keeps trying to upset me with images of poor screwed up cows that were damaged by the dairy industry. The images aren’t strong enough and science isn’t strong enough to keep me away from dairy.
Even though I can’t stay away, there have been days when I have a cold where I have avoided dairy for a few hours. It’s only a matter of time before I NEED to eat a yogurt or a babybel or a cottage cheese snack or a string cheese or a slice of pepper jack cheese on my tuna melt, and about an hour after that I’ll notice a difference. A worse difference, because of the dairy.
If you’re able to fight against dairy sinking its delicious talons into you then I, along with the internet and science, recommend that you avoid dairy to cure a cold.
Seriously, just take the freaking medicine. It works, it helps. It will probably make your stomach hurt, but it helps all the other stuff. My personal fav is Tylenol Cold and Flu SEVERE, or the generic version of that. I don’t know if this is technically medically allowed but I will often start to take it preventatively at the first sign of a cold and it keeps it from getting worse. Again I’m not a doctor and it’s hard for me to admit that. So don’t take that too seriously or like, as advice.
But it works for me.
Not sure if this is a cure for a cold beyond the “take a nap” part, but STAY HOME. Seriously keep your germs out of everyone’s face. At least until you get yourself to a place where you are managing your symptoms and you’re not coughing or sneezing uncontrollably all over the place. Everyone is going to get sick anyway, so it’s not fair, or even accurate, to really blame one person for bringing germs around, but do your part to keep them out of the world and confined to your house. Be a good citizen.
what is YOUR cure for a cold?
Okay that’s all I got. What do YOU got? Plz share.
